Socal - Los Angeles County - Pacific Palisades NickNames: #PaseoMiramar
Take P.C.H. off of the 10 Frwy W. and make a right at Sunset. Go up Sunset and take a left at the first signal. Park on this street (there's plenty of parking in the mornings). Once you saddle-up, head back down Sunset (towards the beach) and make the first right on Paseo Miramar. Follow the yellow lines up the street. This paved street climbs up for about 1.5 miles and dead ends at the Paseo Miramar fire gate (kinda steep too...). Go through the gate and continue upwards.. Thomas Guide page 630 G5

- Trail UpdateEvery Bit Bulldozed-i was devastated when i saw a bulldozer in front of me after having ridden less than 100 yards. i had to wait for it and the smoke to pass, but even with it out of sight i could hear the engine. huge tire tracks and loose sand (evidently dumped there by the trail maintenence crew) forced me to carry my bike up halfway to Trippet Ranch. eventually i was too exhausted to care much about anything so i mounted my bike and rode up to Trippet Ranch already exhausted (plus, it was like 90 degrees out there). the shady parts near the "ranch" were very welcome and appeared stunningly beautiful in the heat of the afternoon.
veiws were still spectacular. i reccomend riding up to eagle junction, taking the trail to your right, passing eagle springs and turning down from the hub to michael lane (there is a sighn that indicates the trail). then after that descent turn right down michael ln (i live there by the way) and onto palisades drive to sunset and paseo mirmar to your car.

- Trail UpdatePaseo Miramar-My husband, friend and I started our ride 7-18-03 around 7:15a. The cloud cover helped us to stay relatively cool although it was still humid. The fire road is in great condition. This ride was more uphill than down until we reached Eagle Springs, which was a rolling area. Came down via Trailer Canyon and took Palisades Dr. (paved) all the way back down to Sunset. Had to ride pack up to where our cars were parked. Took roughly 3.5 hours for loop. Hard work but great scenery. Still green with some wildflowers.

- Trail UpdatePaseo Miramar-I actually started this ride at El Cab trail and went to the hub and then down to Sunset. The fire road is in excelent condition right now, smooth and slightly wet. Continued up East Topanga back to the hub. This loop is a great work-out with nice scenery especially at Paseo Miramar.

- Trail UpdateWhat's Old Is New-"Fresh start", "New beginnings", "Bright new day". Plug in any feminine product name you want here, what I'm trying to say is that the rain has done what it does best, change things. For the better.
Decided to inflict a little pain upon myself this morning by heading up Paseo. Up the blacktop, onto the freshly graded dirt the traction was supreme. Cold air pinching my lungs I made it to the top and turned down the super sweet Green Monster.
The rain had made a small new rut down the middle right at the very top which made me cringe at the thought of how the bottom must look. Cruising in and out, left and right I came upon the knife edge section which I dismounted my last time down. We're talking about 4 inches wide for about 15 yards. Sketchy. But that was in August when speed was ruled by dry, slippery, fast dirt and any sideways lean would skid you right into the lagrer ruts on either side. The grip was insane this time, no dismount, "I'm goin' in!". Controlling speed beautifully, I felt good about half way in, and then...like a scene from the movie "San Andreas Fault" the Earth opened up beneath me and swallowed me whole. I went into the left side rut, my bike into the right one.
Onward down this mother I came upon "the speed bump", which is a rounded ledge, about a foot high, accross the line. Gave it a try but came up short again losing all momentum half way up. It's hard to describe why this spot is so weird.
Then into the bottom section where lies a sweet red sandstone-like section that is infested with deep ruts. I have tried at least 3 different lines into this spot with not much luck. This time I tried hard left all the way around the side. This gave a nice straight line perpendicular to most of the ruts. Presto! First time for everything.
Great ride, great views, cold air, a little blood, now I'm the only one in my entire office wearing a Halloween costume. What's wrong with these people?
Happy Halloween.

- Trail UpdateSome Advice...-The grading has been finished and compacted
and very, very ridable. It's so much smoother
without all the little ruts at the bottom that you begin
the climb a lot faster than usual. This sets you up
for a nice bonk halfway up. Pace yourselves folks.

- Trail UpdatePaseo Miramar-The regrading of this fire road is complete. It is well smoothed out at the deep ruts near the PM gate. It may now be rideable uphill. Lots of chatty hikers with dogs, so watch out going down!

- Trail UpdatePASEO MIRAMAR-Downhill Bikers: Please watch your speed as you pass pedestrians. Be sure to pass them at a safe speed and distance. Some uncaring bikers are starting to incite militant reactions from the hikers.

- Trail UpdatePaseo Miramar-August 2000-This awesome trail is undergoing the first regrading in
20 years. Watch out for soft conditions as well as closed trail days. The Fire Department is busy fixing
a lot of damage and will probably be working through
the end of August 2000.

- Trail UpdatePaseo Miramar-This trail should not be confused with Old Smoothie. Who knows where that is. This is Paseo Miramar! It is a severe technical climb for advanced riders. Not only is it full of ruts, narrow passes, and lose rock, I think I saw Tae Bo's entire fitness class crowding the trail. Watch out for pedestrians! As a final leg of the connecting trials, it is a down hill rush, otherwise hardcore climbers this is for you.

- Trail UpdateOld Smoothie-Now that's it's June the mud is all gone but the deep ruts are still there, but who cares because there's alot of room on the side of the ruts, or hell just ride inn the ruts, after were not wimpy SUV drivers who get stuck in ruts! Try riding later in the day (bring a light kit) and enjoy great sunsets and the city scape by twilight, it's also a lot cooler for those monster climbs.

- Trail UpdateBackbone--Will Rogers Section-This trail is very rutted out due to the recent rains...there are mud puddles every once in a while and the dirt is pretty damn soggy. And the trail is only 6.3 mi to Will Rogers. It's awesome, but due to winter, it's a lot rockier so make sure your shocks are dialed in and settle back and enjoy this technical ride.

- Trail UpdatePaseo Miramar/Backbone-This is a steep, relentless fire road that climbs a little over 2 miles to the Parker Mesa Overlook junction. You can go left for about .5 miles and get a nice view of the ocean, or keep right and continue on to Trippet Ranch. It's about 3.5 miles of up/down to Trippet Ranch.
When you reach Trippet Ranch stay to the right of the fork and continue up the fire road to Eagle Springs. This is about .5 miles and has a couple of semi steep sections (not as bad as Paseo Miramar!).
Keep right when you get to Eagle Springs. This takes you to Hub Junction. It's about 2 miles to the Hub from Eagle Springs. There are a few options once you get to the Hub. My suggestion is to go right (South) at the Hub on East Temescal fire road.
At about 1.2 miles or so you'll come to Backbone trail on your left (it's the first left you can take). This is some very nice single track (look out for hikers if it is later in the day). Backbone will take you all the way to Will Rogers State Park. It's about 10 miles of cool single track. There are a couple of fast downhill sections with quick turns and narrow rutted paths. Then the trail levels out and weaves through some thick brush. This trail has a couple of challenging switchbacks and a cool bridge crossing. Finish it up with some cool man made jumps, and your back to civilization at Will Rogers Park.
Exit the park and go right on Sunset (watch for cars) for a mile or so. You'll get to some restaurants and shops, etc. Take a left on Temescal Rd. and head back down to P.C.H. Go right on P.C.H. and take a right back on to Sunset (This seems to be the best way to avoid all the cars). Go up Sunset and turn left at the light. Your car should be waiting for you.
This is a grueling but fun ride! Enjoy the pain!
