    • Trail UpdateMorton Peak Singletrack-see previous route description. as you're going up fireroad to morton peak there is a signed trail to the left. this is the santa ana river trail. just a few yards up the trail and to the right is an unsigned trail. although it looks like it takes you the wrong way, it loops back around and continues along ridgeline. the singletrack is overgrown is some places (needs more traffic). the trail rolls for a couple of miles and then you begin to drop elevation big time of some super steep and straight singletrack. this is way better than the santa ana river trail. it's about 6 miles of singletrack and then you're back in the orange/lemon groves. work your way left through a series of dirt road/pavement back to hwy 38 and then to your car. for you guys that loves the steeps, this is the trail for you.

    • Trail UpdateMorton Peak-rode this trail last sat. parked at mill creek ranger station and rode for a couple miles up hwy. 38. turned left on dirt road. road this steep fireroad until i hit a junction. continue left at locked gate. the singletrack will be on left and is signed as the santa ana river trail. good trail. is 5 miles, not 8 as originally posted. while at top of morton peak, spoke w/ a ranger. there's another trail called morton peak singletrack that bikers are allowed to ride. as you're going uphill, just past the santa ana river trail is a faint trail to your right. this follows the ridgeline and then drops you down by dam. it appears longer than the santa ana river trail. next time i'll try this one.

    • Trail UpdateMorton Peak-Please note that in the directions you will turn right on Hwy 38 (Lugonia), not left as the directions say. You will still head East and towards the mountains so this should seem obvious. I haven't ridden this singletrack since Spring, but it was pretty overgrown and I found lots of ticks. I recommend knee-high socks and arm-warmers to protect yourself from the bushes and weeds. They also make it easier to find the ticks.
The Climb is pretty brutal, but the singletrack is definitely worth it. I prefer to park at Hwy. 38 where the trail crosses back across Mill Creek, about a mile before the Ranger Station. This enables you to get all of your climbing done at the beginning of the ride, which is always my choice.
      Have Fun.

    • Trail UpdateRocky, Narrow-begin climb from trail(fire road) a 3 1/2 to 4 mile leg burning climb to the look out tower. below is the start of the single track close to 8 miles of singletrack downhill very technical and tricky. follow trail down and follow fire roads on end of newport ave. toward wash which leads you back to hwy 38 west of ranger station ride back to station.
