There's three names that trick you up. "Three Trees" actually has 5 trees, Five Deer has never had any deer that I've seen and East Canyon actually travels north-south. Posted by Steve K a 17 year old Weekend Warrior riding a Mongoose XR-100 from Canyon Country (Santa Clarita), CA on 07/25/04

"Monster" - one of toughest, stupidist, off-the hook "I'm gonna die here" trails I've ever had the horrifying experience to ride...and watch a buddy go off a 50' cliff, bike and all...the name says it all... I would agree with you on that, except Monster doesn't really do it justice. "The Monster big enough to swallow Dusty Bottoms whole, and spit him out like a piece of chicken grissle" is more like it. :-) Posted by El Jefe on 07/26/04

I rode a piece of trail with my buddy in LA that's reportedly called "The Diner".

have I ever told you the history of that name??? ;-) (which btw is right up there with the best) (in the voice of Dean) It all began in the 19th century..... Posted by Macrider a 37 year old Die-hard Enthusiast riding a Turner RFX, XCE & Trek Bruiser 2 from LA on 07/26/04

I was trying (for Brahma) to be long winded and historical...you know, for the kids... and yes, it was what you said....but the actual trail was a wagon road in the 19th Century that had fallen completely into disuse...until Dean & Bender "discovered" it... "What's the best trail name you have heard?" Slaughterhouse."Why was it named that?" I have no idea, but I think the name is cool.

Bootleg Canyon out in NV has some really good names.Ginger is a lot harder then say Armaggedean or Elevator shaft though so don't put to much weight in the name of the trail. Posted by Pain Freak riding a Surly Turner from The 909 on 08/02/04

Ginger fits in the context of how you approach ridding it. Flying Monkey for the first "riders" of that cliff. San Juan cause the invaders say so. Each trail name may have a story that is not totally obvious. It adds color and myth and adventure to travel riding. You can stare at your heart monitor if you like, but I prefer to see beyond the bike and into the culture of the locale. Posted by OCD on 08/02/04
