Riding in Arizona...
Just trying to get any general info on Arizona's trails. I have some RARE time off and I have a place to stay in Scottsdale. The only downside I can see is that I will be there in mid August which translates to blazing desert temps. I figure if I can start riding early enough in the AM, I should be okay??? Sedona looks relatively close (about 100 miles north?) Any info on nearby XC trails (not too insanely tech.), would be tremendously appreciated...

August in Phoenix is not only hot, but also can be humid. (Yeah, they SAY it's a dry heat, but that's the rest of the year.) Head for the mountains, I.E. Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff. Or, take the advice others have given regarding riding in Phoenix in the summer, don't, go tubing on the Salt River instead.

Prescott has some great trails and there's no problem riding early or late in the day. As long as you're back in by eleven or don't start til 3ish, you can do a lot of rides out there. Otherwise, riding early or late in the day where you're going... not!

Prescott is the Bomb! I just sold my Vacation house there but could give some pretty good info on two or three really good rides. Williamson Valley competitive track (AZ state race site), Lynx Lake trail #305 to Spruce mountain look-out and back down (awsome) or groom creek loop, which can be tied as a shuttle to lynx lake. There are tons of rides there and the weather rocks most of the time. Right now is Monsoon season. But, whats a little (lot) of rain and mud.....More Fun!

How about the road loop through Iron Springs and back up the 89? Granite Basin has a good loop, there's a race course out that way, too. Lots of ups and downs. Some rock gardens and switchbacks to keep things interesting.

I have not done Iron Springs road up to 89. But I'm sure its good. The granite basin area is where the Williamson valley competitive tract is at. I raced their State race there last year. I always thought it was a great training ride. But, as a race loop its way Fun and fast. The prescott area trails are marked and maintained way better than most of the stuff here in So Cal.
