I recently upgraded to Shimano hydraulic brakes. The rear sounds like something between a moose that has just been hit with OO rock salt and an out-of-control train load of high school girls. What can I do to make the rear brake behave like it should? Posted by Snoscott a 52 year old riding a Trek fuel from Breckenridge, CO on 09/17/06

Re: Hydraulic brake squeal
EBC Gold pads (more of a copper color) have worked great for me. No squeal, and about 5 times the life of Shimano pads. Posted by Dr Wellington Yueh on 09/18/06

Re: Hydraulic brake squeal
"moose that has just been hit with OO rock salt and an out-of-control train load of high school girls" Wow, that is pretty descriptive. With disc brakes in a car, if you have a squeeking sound I believe it is a result of the back of the pad vibrating againsed the caliper. I am not to familiar with Shimano discs', however, with my avids, I can adjust the position in which the pad compresses againsed the rotor. Try adjusting them in various ways and see what you come up with. I have heard numerous accounts of the Shimano Hydraulic pads squeeking.
