 Mongoose MGX A60 opinions
I bought a new Mongoose MGX A60 online from eBay for $250 (less than half price). I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this bike. Mongoose's web site does not mention it or any of the MGX bikes which is odd because this model is one of their mid/top of the line aluminum frame front susp models. I'm leaving for college and needed a bike to commute to classes and around town as well as to hit the trails on the weekends, and one of my concerns was getting stuck with a department store bike (I'm not dogging peeps with dept. store bikes, I just hate riding them, personally). If anyone has a bike like mine and wants to share your experiences with me, please do. Thanks!

Sorry to break the bad news to you buddy, but you got ripped! That is a department store bike. It actually is a Brunswick with a Mongoose name, because Brunswick owns Mongoose.

You do know I'm talking about the A60, and not the S20 or the A40, right? This comes with a Manatou SX fork and is very lightweight. MSRP for the A40 is only $199, but the A60's MSRP was $699 in 1998. The components need to be upgraded to XT's, but other than that, for the price I paid, I would have expected to get nothing more than a frame and fork that is this good.

OK I apologize. I cannot remember al the details and names of Mongoose/Brunswick bikes. What is it that you wanted to know about this thing? To upgrade it to XT will cost alot of money you would be better of getting a new bike for that kind of cash.
The original setup was shimaNO Alivio cranks, bottom bracket, brakes and hubs. STX rear der., LX front der., STX rapidfire shifter's.

Are you talking about the original setup for the A60? I don't think I'll be upgrading the components until I have to. I put the bike together yesterday and I didn't even have to adjust the derailers. Everything seems to be working together nicely. The setup I have now is Suntour XR17 cranks, TDpro der's and gripshifters., and Tectro brakes. I eventually will upgrade, since you can get fairly inexpensive XT components from online auction sites, but for right now, it'll work fine like it is (I don't plan on using it to compete or anything). I'm the kind of person that likes to research what I buy. I have so far been unsuccessful in finding much information about this bike online. I found two reviews at , but I was just wondering what people on this site thought about it. Thanks for your help, Rem.788

NO I TAKE BACK MY APOLOGY! I CLICKED ON THE WRONG LINK WHEN VIEWING INFO ON THIS TOY! IT IS IN FACT AFTER FURTHER DIGGING A DEPT. STORE BIKE!! IT ORIGINALLY WAS SPECED WITH SOME ULTRA LOW END SHIMANO COMPONENTS LOWER THAN TOURNEY AND A BALLISTIC FRONT FORK. I STICK WITH MY ORIGINAL STATEMENT YOU GOT RIPPED!
