- Trail UpdateGrays Peak Trail-A friend, and I rode this on Wednesday(10/15). His first time, my fourth time. We rode from Fawnskin to Grays Peak to Hanna Flat CG, and down the FR to the trailhead.
The growth seems to be coming back from the last fire, and the fall colors were great. The trail was in good condition. A little sandier than the last time, three years ago.
One of the best trails in SoCal, imo.

- Trail UpdateRode this trail today and found nary a soul out there. The sand is deeper than I remember. No problem for a 29er. The fire damage is apparent but some of the "sprouter" trees are coming back. Had a great time! Where were you? Put down the video game and ride! It's more fun anyway.

- Trail UpdateWinter Wonderland.-Thought about giving this trail a try this weekend.
Parked behind the Fawnskin Lodge and started riding up Rim of the world. This turned into a dirt road 2n13.
Unfortunately, there was unusally cold weather combined with the wind chill and plenty of snow up here. Don't be fooled by the mild weather at start of the ride. You Need gloves and not just summer riding gloves. My fingers still feel the sting of the cold.
Riding in the snow wasn't bad (actually easier than in the mud there). There were a couple of spots where the trail was iced over and I wiped out on those spots. Unfortunately I was freezing and running out of time. If you're not back at the car by 4:00 PM you could easily get in a lot of trouble. So I chickened out and got back to the car by 4:15 PM. (rode it Sun. Nov. 23)

- Trail UpdateA Real MTB Trail-This trail has it all IMHO. Great single track, lots of very technical sections and plenty of climbing, not only to the summit but on the road going up to Hannah Flats Compground. I have camped their for the past 4 years and last July was my first opportunity to ride this trail (broken wrist last year, broken ankle year before). I'm ashamed to say I bonked on the optional turn-off to Butler Peak. The 7k + altitude can be tough. It was mostly fun downhill from there to Fawnskin, however, since I left from the campground I had to ride the Rim of The World road back up, two miles all climb. Although not my favorite ride it is a very good one with plenty of challanges and I look forward to riding it again. I actually don't think the trail up to Butler Peak can be cleaned. Anybody do it? This trail is definately not for beginners.

- Trail UpdateBikes Good, Horses Bad-Six horses tore up about half of this trail today. It was more difficult to ride because of them. A good ride other than that. Watch out for deep sand in the corners, it made me crash once.

- Trail UpdateArea 51-Park behind the store in Fawnskin, next to the fire station. Ride up Rim of the World Drive (Past front of fire station; turns to dirt about 1/4 mile later) and continue uphill to fork in the road. Turn right; destination, Hannah Flats campground (not to be confused with the cabins (boy scout, I think) which you'll pass first. Enter campground through gate on your left, ride straight to campsite #51. Behind it (it may be occupied!) is a trail running off to the right as you look at the site. Follow it for about miles of nice singletrack. Be careful when the trail crosses the roads; the trail on the opposite side isn't always apparent, but IS marked, in every case. Trail will culminate in a nice switchback descent to the shore of the lake, just a half mile down the road from where you started.
