 Suspension Shock Repair
I have 2 Motiv Rockpoint bikes and am trying to swap out some parts. How do you take the rear suspension shock apart?

Hi Professor, Generally I like to stay on top of the bike but I do enjoy riding in and out of some of the washes on the dirt trails/road around here. When they (the washes) get too steep and or rocky I chicken out and walk it through. Recently I noticed a rattle and discovered the piston in the shock was shot so I tried to remove the good one from a second bike but it didn't want to come off hence the question. I guess I have to compress the piston somehow to remove the tension, huh?

I would just call Motiv & ask for a replacement. They shipped me one once when I had the same issue, no charge. They advised against taking the piston apart.

I would also recommend a LizardSkins shock boot on there - keeps the grunge out. My last shock went years w/o a problem, and still worked like new when I broke the frame :)
