 Hope Disc Brake Howl...
I've got a wicked howl on my new (to me) Switchblade. It has Hope Mono Mini discs front and back and this weekend it was HOWLING from the back brake on a dry, dusty descent. Any suggestions on quieting the beast? I have no experience with discs, any help will be very much appreciated...

    Hopes howl.

You might see if there is a buildup of material on the disc itself. I take fine sand paper... very fine... and while spinning the wheel lightly clean off the buildup. Afterwards, clean with rubbing alcohol.

Go to Pep Boys and buy one of those 79 cent packets of brake squeal crap. Remove the pads and use a Q-Tip (or other brand of cotton swab) :-) to apply a small amount to the pistons where they make contact with the pads. Replace the pads. Careful...if this gunk gets on the pad, it will screw it up.

Agreed on this one...however I went a step further on my Mono M4's. I actually took some very thin aluminum sheets and cut them to the same size as the brake pads and drilled a hole for the pad retaining pin to go through them (we call em shims in the automotive world), then put some "anti-squeal" in between the shims and pad. This cured my howling rear brake on all but the longest downhills when they get VERY hot.

Did you ever cure the front brake mess yet Jackson? That was awful!

Yep, I boiled and baked the pads....sanded the rotors slightly and now they stop fine. Just need to do my shim/anti-squeal mod to the front now and they'll be fine.

Got no help for you on the Hopes, but my Avid Juicys did this for the second time the other day and may have caused rockslides from the harmonic shriek. Unreal and focked.

The blue goo for the back of disc pads is already sitting on my bench.
