 Beach Cruiser Bike suggestions?
Hello,

I am new to the board and to bikes in general. I hope it is okay that I am posting this here.

Recently, a shiny pink beach cruiser bike caught my eye. I have been thinking about buying one ever since. It seems like most beach cruisers have one speed and a coaster break. I would like to find one that has multiple speeds and a hand break (if that is the proper term).

Could anyone suggest brands to buy? Electra seems good, but a bit expensive. I saw a brand called Greenline, which seems affordable, but I had little luck finding any reviews.

tia for any help or suggestions.

I don't know much about Beach Cruisers, but I can tell you that you should probably stay away from bikes (like Electra) that are sold at places like Sports Chalet, etc.

Go to your local bike shop and get an idea what they may sell in the form of a beach cruiser. Keep in mind, the local bike shop will more than likely be more expensive. But, in the long run you are creating a relationship with this shop and they'll take care of your bike for you with tune-ups, tire changes and fun stuff like that. They will also have higher quality and more of a variety of bikes to choose from.

Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for!

    :)

Phat cycles make a few different cruisers but are pricey, but micargi makes some cheap cruisers . I worked in 2 bike shops and I cannot recall of any that have a hand brake but not coaster...... Wait, I actually found one. It is a Nirve, and its not pink. Here is the link.

Actually Electra is a brand that is sold at indie bike shops. Montrose Bike is a dealer for them as well. Electra also pimps out their stuff at InterBike in Las Vegas, so they are pretty reputable.

The Schwinn cruiser sold at Target is a cheap frame with cheap parts, I'd stay away from that if you plan to ride frequently.

As stated, there are brands that have multiple speeds, but they are largely found at indie bike shops. Of course it will be extra for such a bike. Plan on spending $399 for such a cruiser.

    Hi,
Last summer I purchased a Greenline Beach Cruiser and so far it has been wonderful. I bought the ladies 7 speed in white. , The gears really help especially if you have hills in your area. The bike really rides smooth as well. I don't know alot of the techie specs with the gears and hand brakes, but they seem to work really well. I just wanted an inexpensive bike and this bike was in my budget.
I purchased the beach cruiser online and they shipped it to me. There was some assembly required, but over all the assembly went pretty good. I company I bought it from www.beachcruisers4less.com recommended that I have a professional put it together. But when I told them that I was going to put it together, they were very helpful when I had a couple of questions about the hand brake assembly.

Anyway, I hope this helps you in your decision. Happy riding

so i'm searching for a bicycle to ride around, and ideally might want a shoreline cruiser. nonetheless, i'd rather have a shoreline cruiser with a front brake. are shoreline cruisers made with a front brake? A-One Assignments
