 3 year update
In November/December 2004, I built up 2 new frames, a 2003 model year Intense XVP and a 2003 Santa Cruz.
They have been excellent bikes to date. I think I crashed on the SC twice and once on the Intense.
The more I ride the Intense, the more I feel that the Spider is one of the most agile bikes there is. I crashed
on the Intense while going down something steep that the Intense wasnt made for. However for trail bike riding, this bike has
served the purpose and the ride is sweet either climbing or ascending. I tried a 4" front travel fork and it seemed too
stiff and mousie, a 5" travel 90/130 ETA fork is perfect. Although Intense doesnt recommend a 130mm fork, I use the 130
setting when descending and the 90mm when climbing or on flatland, so its a hybrid theory of fork usage. Even MBA mag says
using a 5" fork with a 4" rear or vice versa is OK, an inch either way is acceptable according to bike guru Richard Cunningham.

The SC Bullit is a great single pivot all around bike. With a Fox DHX pro pedal rear shock, the bike has very little bob
when climbing. In fact it climbs very well for a 36 lb bike. This is one of the last made in USA Bullits and had 178mm rear travel and now with the new Fox Shox has 1/2" more travel which is barely noticeable. It climbs better now than when I first had it with the stock Progresive shock. It cushions down a singletrack or fireroad with authority, the Marzocchi fork handles most drops and rocks with no problem and it is very easy to go beyond a normal speed limit when ascending.

On both bikes I prefer 'sticky' 40 duro WTB Timberwolf tires for tremendous traction and mechanical disc brakes for the ease of cable routing and non-hydraulic maintenance.
Flame on but show your own ride as well before throwing the mud, no balls no glory!

Who is the bigger fool, the troll trolling for trolls, or the troll that bites?

In this case, based on past history, the bigger fool is the troll trolling for trolls.

                  That is all.

Pete - Shouldn't you be more concerned about teaching your youngin how to ride his mt bike (properly), than trolling around the vastness of this wasteland? We just want the fuel.....

that was my 94 Mongoose Hilltopper SX. I bought the frame new for $40 chromolly. Added a new rigid fork, set of $75 rims, Tektro V brakes, Deore cranks/bb, WTB 1.9 tires, sram twist shifters, FBM flat pedals, specialized stem, easton ea70 flatbar, mongoose seatpost and seat.built it in 2001, sold it on ebay for $300 in late 2001. Was a nice beater bike.

theres a bunch of other bikes that I've gone through, but one of my prize 2 wheelers
is this mint OCT 1978 "lil chik". Its probably the best cond. vintage girl's bike out there. Everything
is original---the tires, pedals, uhh..reflectors. I bought it from a man that said his daughter
probably ridden it twice and left it in her bedroom closet since 1978. My niece asked to ride it
my answer was I ended up buying her a GT.
