 Mt Lukens open?
Anybody know if any of the fireroad routes to Mt Lukens are open now? Or does the Station Fire closure still keep us from riding there? I'm thinking of the fireroads from ACH, either Grizzly Flats or from the fire station. Thanks.

According to the Cal Trans site, Angeles Crest Highway is still closed. The last I heard, most of the Angeles National Forest that was burned in the Station fire was still closed.

Thanks Gringo. I saw bike tracks, footprints, and vehicles up there on the webcam so thought it might be open now.

Have you ridden Mendenhall fireroad recently? It's open, right?

Yes. Mendenhall is open. The snow that we ran into last time should be melted by now.

I called the Little Tujunga FS office to get the latest info. Both Lukens and Mendenhall fireroad are closed. The ranger said that the closure sign on Mendenhall near Dillon Divide was "removed by the public" but the road is still officially closed. Bummer.

Interesting. There were guys working up there the last time we were there and they said the road was open.

I just got the official email regarding trails that are reopening 5/16/11. Included will be "Mt. Lukens road (once the highway opens)" and "Santa Clara Divide Truck Trail (Dillon Divide to Mt. Gleason to Three Points)" which would appear to include Mendenhall Ridge fireroad.

You can take Haines Canyon Ave at the reservoir to start. The fireroad has become singletrack in spots, and is very strenuous, but rideable up and down. Many hikers and bikers have used this route continuously since the closures without issues.

Has anyone ridden up to Mt. Lukens via the fire road that starts at the ranger station on Angeles Crest Highway?
