 Redline or NOT Redline?
Hi all,
Having owned a few of the Redline bikes i can sfely say the one i ride now an RL20II owned from brand new(with a checkered past from there and back again :D) and the MXII have to be the best!
I recently sighted what i believed to be an old Redline MXII laying on the side of the road waiting for the rubbish pickup day.
I stopped jumped out and GRABBED it! LMAO as anyone would if they like the good old bikes.
And i then started the laborous task of ressurection to it's proper state.
I'm living in Australia, Born and bred.
Upon sussing the serial number: 347139 i started to think ok i havent a Redline at all but a damn good copy with no normal oval with Redline stamped in th bottom braket or anything....just a serial i started to wonder, i mean it's light as a feather and it has the exact same geometry in the frame the fork dropouts are exact replica material i'm a bit worried LOL,
Can anyone shed any light upon this?
I thought i had an 80's model piece of history but i can't be certain now till i get this sorted :D.
Any help would be greatly appretiated.

    Hey,
sorry I can't shed too much light on the mystery, but would like to say that my first BMX bike was a Kuwahara lookalike which felt lighter and performed as good or better than the real deal. I am talking about 1985.. In those days, the Rolls-Royce of BMX bikes was the REDLINE PL20, with add-ons to make it freestyle-worthy as it being a racing bike originally. Then was the RL20 and the RL 20II. I know the most sought-after colour was RADBERRY (no mistake in spelling!). Therefore, I won't be surprised that what you have is a damn good replica which is worthy in its own rights. My first bike was npot a fake, just without any brand but with serial numbers imprinted. So, my guess is, your bike is not a fake but an unknown brand with probably good credentials durings its time. Cheers! - Drop me a line, as I don't think I will return to this newgroup.

I have an original white Redline (Proline) PL20. The only thing I've changed since 1981 are the pedals and the tires. I (now 36) rode it as a sponsored rider for Redline back when Harry Larry was still the man. It's the only thing I have left from sponsorship, but well worth the dust. :)

One thing I can tell you is GT made some incredible BMX bikes in those days. It's very possible you got a GT, a Diamondback or even a Mongoose. Believe it or not, Mongoose actually used to make good BMX bikes. Since most of the old BMX companies sold out to places like Walmart, Costco and Target, a lot of people tend to shy away from those brands. But, if you find something circa 1980 from any of those names, you're bound to have found yourself a gem.

    Good luck!

    :)
