    • Trail UpdateTapia - Best Trail Ever-This trail has got to be my ALL TIME favorite. The single track is awesome. The climb is great because (1) it's not too grueling and (2) the terrain varies so you have some up and down to the towers. Don't get me wrong.. it's still a climb, but compared to other trails it's a whole lot more fun.

Please try to be respectful around the homes near the trail. This whole area is private property and can easily be restricted to MTB. Watch for snakes in the warmer months. Our group almost ran over a rattler on the single track.

The only bad part about Tapia is the goat head stickers. I have gotten a flat almost every time I've been there (especially near the Sport Complex). Avoid the dirt areas in the parking lot. You will (100%) get thorns in the dirt area. I would suggest bringing extra tires (if you have them) and 2 replacement tubes.

    • Trail UpdateRoute From Copper Hill-In case the previous post was not answered, access to the power pylons from Copper Hill is from Avenida Rancho Tesoro. It is off CH just west of McBean PW. Trail access is near the end of ART on the left. Park in side street. Once on the black top access road behind the gate, turn left on to dirt about 200 yards in. "Good" climb to a "T"; turn right and follow the fire road to the pylons.
      Have fun!

    • Trail UpdateKona For Speed!-The bees are back and the snakes are out! All the singletracks are in great shape, super fun, but could we stop using the singletrack for uphill traffic? There are lots of quick blind turns causing too many collisions with downhillers. Just sayin.

    • Trail UpdateTapia Cyn- Junkyard, Kona, Carls-First time here- trails are in great condition. Tacky & smooth. nothing too technical; many spur trails available, some crazy steep and loose bomber DH trails nearby also.

From the sports complex, south on Castaic Rd, follow the road left across the riverbed, make a right at the T-intersection onto Tapia Canyon Road. Make a left before entering the jail and climb past the movie sets and picnic areas. When the road turns to dirt, the trails begin. Wayside Canyon to the left, Tapia Canyon to the right.

Went up Wayside Canyon, through the Junkyard, came down the north side to a flat area to reach the intersection with Tapia Canyon Rd. I took a spur to the left hoping to rejoin Wayside Canyon before the Junkyard but came up empty-handed and returned to Tapia Canyon intersection. Climbed Tapia Canyon to power lines at the top (interesection with San Francisquito Mtwy). The view below of San Francisquito Canyon is pretty nice. Took a trail off to the left to a yellow gate and descended down the singletrack (Kona Trail) to Tapia Canyon. Once at the bottom, took the singletrack to the left (Carl's MTB Trail) which parallels Tapia Canyon to the bottom by the SCV Jail. Followed the recent race course (still marked from the Tapia Canyon Classic last month).

    • Trail UpdateThe trails are in great condition and as always a blast to ride, but with the heat come the snakes. On Sunday, a large (4') rattler was resting in the middle of the trail.

    • Trail UpdateTapia Cyn Single Track-Park at the Castaic sport complex parking lot. Take Castaic Road south and turn right at the intersection onto Tapia Canyon. Before reaching the backside of the prison facility, turn left onto fire rd. section. Ride fire road for 2 miles until you reach a gate section. Turn right onto single track. Continue on single track until you reach San Fran Motorway. Return on same single track. There are several rides from this location.
