  • Sycuan Summit - #SycuanSummit

Socal - San Diego County - El Cajon/Dehesa NickNames: #SycuanSummit

Take the I8 from San Diego for about 20-35 miles. Get off at Washington St. in El Cajon. Go south until you come to the Dehesa Rd. intersection. Go down Dehesa Rd. and past the big 10% grade. After you pass Singing Hills Golf Course look to your left. You will see some big mountains. Look for a housing development. Go left at Sycuan Summit Rd. and you can park at the end of the road. • Trail UpdateSycuan Summit 10/03-

This trail starts at the north end of Sycuan Summit Drive and ends in the vicinity of Dehesa Mountain Lane in the town of Suncrest.

The properties on either side of the trailhead are private residences and riders should respect the same.

According to San Diego county records,
(www.sangis.org) the majority of the trail crosses properties primarily owned by non-resident trusts.

The elevation gain/loss is approx 1500 ft and the trail is moderately technical with washout and eroded conditions over most of the same.

From Dehesa Rd, Dehesa Mountain Lane (summit) is approx 2 miles and turns into Crest Drive/La Cresta Blvd and Mountain View Rd(right/east)or continue (left/west) on La Cresta Rd.

The eastern route follows (down) to Dehesa Canyon road and (right/west) to Rancho San Diego.

The western route follows (down) to Greenfield Dr and El Cajon.

From Dehesa, the view is worth the climb & from Suncrest/Crest the downhill-ers should find the adrenaline rush enjoyable as well.

    • Trail UpdatePretty Good Downhill-This trail has some pretty good downhill that is pretty technical and should bring about 3-4 people to roll the old car down the rest of the mountain. Go to the right and keep following the main road then it will have several other trails to go off on. There's another main road to the right that has a good uphill but don't know where that takes you. It's a fun trail to come back down and has some more technical parts than Anderson. But overall its a alright trail.

    • Trail UpdatePrivate Property-I conccur with the references to the directions to the trail being wrong. But this trail just so happens to be on private property. Probably not the best trail to ride. Besides, Sloan Canyon is only a couple clicks away.

    • Trail UpdateAnother Correction To Directions-"Squirmy Rooster" *almost* got it right, except that you need to turn LEFT at the intesection of Jamacha and Washington. (Right would take you west on Washington, toward downtown El Cajon.)

Please respect "No Trespassing" signs. Too many trails are being closed due to actions like this.

    • Trail UpdateSycuan Trail-This trail is in moderately poor shape. The uphill sucks due to all the sand and ruts at the bottom, but it just makes the downhill part all that much more fun. By the way, the direction to get there are all jacked. First of all, there is no Washington St. off of I-8. Instead, take the 2nd St. exit off I-8. Stay on 2nd St. for approximately 1 mile (it turns into Jamacha Rd.) At the intersection of Washington Ave. and Jamacha Rd., turn right, THEN follow the directions as above. Disregard the No Trespassing signs.

    • Trail UpdateFrom the end of the road, go over the white fence and through a few yards of brush to drop down to the road. The dirt road winds up for about 2 miles, sometimes degenerating to double track with ruts, but it is all rideable (just a lot of work). Some sand has been dumped on the lower portion of the road to fill the ruts, making short stretches difficult. At the top, you end up in Crest. Coming down is not worth lowering your seat.
