 5-deer to Golden Eagle Ride
Anyone interested?

Start at Lazy-T Ranch (Leona Valley Rd before Bouquet Cnyn)
Ride up Ritter Ridge to 5-Deer
Down 5-Deer &FR to Bouquet up ST on the other side or dirt Spunky & continue to San Francisquito
Cross San Fran then up ST or fire road and continue on N708 to N723
Jump on Golden Eagle and finish at Sandberg Inn

Then ride back road if tired, Fire roads if some spunk left in the legs, or if we be men then back same way we came.
Depending on actual route taken anywhere from 65 to 75 miles and up to 40% or so single track. Definitely an all day ride. There are a couple refueling spots on the way.

Don't have a date yet but STP and I plan to do it before the Summer heat and have to wait until the trails dry a bit.

Should be fun!

Riding the PCT is very bad PR for mountain biking, and posting such a ride on a public forum is stupid. If you're arrogant enough to ride it anyway, at least take your discussion out of public view.

I do apologize for being stupid.

The ST I refer to is not PCT. I should not have said up ST from Bouquet or San Fran as the obvious assumption is that I meant PCT. Sorry about that. 5-deer and Golden Eagle are not PCT and the ST I plan to ride in between is not PCT. The rest is all legal fire road. I have performed lots of volunteer work on the section of PCT in this area and always dream about riding it. However, running and hiking will have to do.

It will be a fun, challenging and legal ride.

Thank you for clarifying the matter. I was in the area last weekend and found lots of snow above ~5,000'. Early morning rides, when the mud is still frozen, are a lot less sloppy than waiting for the mud to thaw. No water available at the forest service station/camp ~3/4mi south of the top of San Francisquito. Thanks for the volunteer trailwork!

I've ridden every part of the ride in bits and pieces and have always wanted to put it all together into one epic ride. I've got all the maps and the desire just need to wait out the mud. Thanks for the water update - I always assume there won't be any so planned on taking water & food at Lake Hughes Store.

I'm sticking to the local Palmdale sand and DG trails for this week and hope to finally ride my new road bike on the weekend. I haven't paid much attention to the LT weather pattern but it appears we're in the usual Winter cycle for a while. Big localized patches of snow down to 2.5K' this morning on Sierra Pelona's and very pretty. It was snowing on the 14 between Rosamond and Mojave on the way in to work and is still snowing lightly in Tehachapis as I look out the hangar doors.

btw: don't ride in the mud out here, frozen or not, I'd consider that to be arrogant and stupid. there are plenty of places to ride out here that won't get damaged by riding in the wet. i don't want to be doing trail repair on your bike ruts or explaining them to the other trail users. ok we're even and now i feel better!
          on second thought, yo mamma!

You won't have to repair my ruts - I was riding on the dirt road, which is groomed by mechanized equipment. My mamma, sadly, hasn't ridden her bike in several years, but I'm glad you feel better :)

What does the Point Conception Travesty have to do with this ride anyway?

        ...the Point Conception Travesty...?

        Most curious, do tell.

Funny, we used to call it the PCH (Pacific Crest Highway) and the JMF (John Muir Freeway).

I'm once rode Golden Eagle and it was all brushy it was so bad I had to crawl undeneath on some parts and reach back to pull my bike throught. Then, I found that I had ticks crawling up me. I will not never ride this ride again.

sounds like an epic ride FFW. Ive' ridden or run most of the route described. one word---BRUTAL! ;)

Make sure you post a couple of weeks notice when you pick a date. I'm in! Early April would be a good time weather-wise.

It's working out that my Son's soccer tournaments are on exactly the same weekends as each and every race I wanted to ride as well as any available weekends I thought I had from now through the end of June. I'll try to work something out for April or May.

I can completely relate! I wanted to race the Nova desert classic again this year in Scottsdale but it falls on a weekend with my son. Bonelli park is the weekend before so I might end up doing that. Ahh,... the life of a single parent
