What is it about non-mtb'ng coworkers and their relation to our sport? Most of them don't care and I don't have a problem with that as my passion belongs to me. There is a small segment that for some reason or another, have to dish out a little slice of sarcasm. A scenario might be you, the MTB'r with a cast or splint and them, saying something like "Did you fall off the bike"? It never fails to piss me off, like, yeah, I was clumsily weaving around the parking lot, like they might and I fell over.
Or better yet, I met a coworker who I hadn't seen for a long time and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Have you been crashing the bike"? Yep, that's right, I love to crash the bike. Every time I go out, I make sure I go over the bars or fall over like a dolt. This is from a guy with a pretty good sized gut and arms that have all the texture of ricotta cheese.
I may have a really good wreck about once a year and it ain't no "falling off the bike". It's usually a spectacular high-speed wreck, doing something that they'd never have the guts to even attempt, much less get good at. I'd love to put them on a bike on some of the more technical sections I regularly clean and ask them to ride. Just point the bike down this rocky and steep 'death-chute' and at the bottom, don't forget to let it roll over the shoebox sized boulders, or you'll ODB into the sharp rocks on the edge and don't forget to surf it through the loose and sandy stuff with the embedded rocks right afterwards. Like the old Twisted Sister tune goes "We ain't gonna take it..."!
