I bught one a month ago and I realy like it, I paid $117 at wally mart and had no problems with yet. I do some down hill and cros.cuntry with it, it a little to hevey for road trips but the added wight makes you go faster down hills 8). its all steel and comes with a crapy no-name fork, but the back shock is o.k. nice wheels but poor tires. and NO water bottle!!

I agree that the MGX DXR's aren't exactly of great quality. Both wheels on mine are bent and the crankset became severly bent and broke, causing it to grind against the frame and get stuck after only 6 months. If anyone buys one of these, I suggest keeping some quality spare cranksets around. Other than those problems, I would still say it's a nice bike because it held up to ramping & off roading during the middle of winter.

I bought a mongoose mgx-dxr at wal-mart and i was riding my bike and the front wheel bolt came loose and i hit a pot hole and the tire got caught in the brakes and I slide across the ground and got 6 stiches on the forehead and 2 in my ear. I think u should put saftey clips on the front tire.

I would suggest going to e-bay and looking at item#1170737183. I bought one of these 3 months ago. Very good bike for the money. I've been down Mt Spokane 6 times with no trouble. For $280 it's well worth it!

    Dear Mongoose,

For some reason my bike gears won't shift. It will just stay in 7th gear.

I bought my wife a Mongoose MGX. It is a hardtail with "Element" front forks. The thing sucks. It's heavier than my 22" frame bike. The shifting is a joke. Overall I'm very upset that I purchased this bike. For the price range, I should have paid roughly $50-$75 more for a Fuji. No more impulse buys for me!!!!
