 Blur (4x) vs Ellsworth Id?
Looking into buying a new frame and need some ideas? Currently on a Blur, 2 1/2 yrs old, and would like to get a new frame and fork setup. The Blur just seems to be a little to taxed on some of the riding I'm doing. Also, maybe just time to get onto another bike. Was looking at the Blur 4x, it's built a little more burley. Just XC riding, not racing, and want something that will last through some of the rocky sections, long rides. Am I crazy to try and get off of the Blur? I just don't want to regret my new purchase, these frame setups are expensive! Any input would be great.

Blur 4x would not be the bike for what you are describing (it's really for racing 4x - not great trail-riding geometry) - as someone said, the Nomad would be about perfect - something long-travel (6 inches), but with excellent pedaling characteristics - the Turner 6-Pack would be another excellent option - either Fox 36 or Marz. Z1 up front - med-heavy build and you should have a 33lb bike that can pedal up it all and BOMB down....

Try the Blur LT. It has great trailriding geometry, but it's also beefed up and gusseted to hold up under burlier riding conditions.

too close to the Blur he already has, what's the point in having a couple of bikes that are different by a few pounds and an inch of travel?

Nomad and the Blur he has make a great little quiver with loads of capability...

unless he's selling the Blur? - although even then I'd say go Nomad...

Well, an XC wheelset and solid duty trail wheelset make a lot of difference in durability. A few grams more here and there add up to a couple pounds, but can really add a lot of strength to a build. Not that I discourage the Nomad- that's definitely a great choice. But they're super hard to come by, where the Blur LT has a bit better availability. Also, the Nomad, while a reportedly great climber, has more freeride geometry that will make it tough for epic trail days compared to the Blur LT. I don't think either is a bad choice.

Yes, and while mostly collecting dust while sitting behind the dirt bikes, I did do a nice road ride yesterday on my Santa Cruz Roadster.

Oh, you mean those sweet bikes with shocks that can get 3 feet of air? Yeah, covered in dust, but yeah.
