Shoe survey - who wearing what ... and why?
I'm looking for a new shoe. Main use is long trail rides. One caveat, I tend to unclip from the trusty 636s on sketchy stuff and move my foot back. Not sure if there is a shoe sole that favors that as far as maintaining good pedal grip. It does tend to tear up the sole a bit over time.

I don't think they still make the Shimano model I was using but it looked kinda like the Shimano SH-M038.

I could do without the laces though.

I've got through exactly one pair of these (for trail riding and DH'ing) in 3 years. Lot's of tough riding, water crossings, yard sales, etc. These puppies are still kicking. But, I'm ready to replace with exactly the same pair. I've tried on many SPD shoes over the last few weeks and they are still the best.

Sean, have you even ridden in the last 3 years?

      j/k

Do you unclip at all ... and how has the sole held up? I will admit that they've held up to a lot of abuse. This is my 2nd pair and they both lasted a long time but just wondered if I should look for something either lighter or with a stiffer sole.

You doing the Pancake Run on Sunday?

The sole has held up better than the rest of the shoe, acutally.

I don't unclip much, even when jumping. I have more control over the bike, unless I'm yard selling of course.. :) If I do unclip, it's usually very very steep or I'm in mid-air about to much hard.. :)

No Pancake Run for me....Baseball on Sundays....

      Barefoot? No problem.

I have the older version of what you have pictured - they've lasted a LONG time (5 years maybe?) - with one trip to the shoe repair place - they look to me like they'll keep lasting for a while too....

everybody else I ride with uses SIDI's

otherwise I ride a pair of 661 Dually's that have been resoled with 5.10 Stealth Dot soles...sticky icky icky on my flats...

Yeah, I got a pair of Duallys as well, that I love for riding my DH on ( with flats ).

But for clipped-in trail riding, I figured maybe it was time to consider something lighter/stiffer. Lighter/stiffer should equal less work and more efficient pedal stroke over a 25 mile grinder. Not really sure what shoe is rated at light or stiff. Plus I still need a tread pattern/design that will still give me some grip on a 636 or similar type pedal when I unclip.

Which model Sidi seems to be in vogue?

Right now I have some old Answer shoes, not sure what kind. I just got the most affordable shoes I could find at the time (I've had them for 3+ yrs). Now, I'm looking into Sidi Dominator 5, I've tried them on and they are sooo comfy and I've heard nothing but good things about Sidi. Unfortunatly, the price is kinda high, so I won't be getting them til I find a good deal. I've been searching e-bay with no luck. Any suggustions?

Sprocket, I'm wearin Shimano Ma 80's they're cheap, work great clipped out and are flexi enough to walk in when needed. I've only had em for 6 months but so far they're holdin up great. My last pair of Shimanos in this price range lasted 6 years. Check em out
