 Mulhulland ride
Sure missed all you guys on the ride Saturday. It was a beautiful day; cool mid 70's, clear and very little wind. Lots and Lots of butt kicking hills! 90 miles and 9,853 ft of elevation gain (also 9,853 ft of downhill - yeehaw!)

Best part was catching the AMGEN group ride up the climb from the rock store with a half mile lead - almost caught the group leaders, and they saw me coming too. No, think the best part was flying down the screamer hill and then corkscrew plunge of Deer Creek road to the beach - definitely wasn't the 5 mile 10% climb back up! The climbs up Little Sycamore and Cothrin Road are also ecstasy for us sick elevation motivated massochists. Got low on water coming down Cothrin road but the folks at the Lazy J were very cool and let us stop for refreshments!

Guess I won't be doing any more of these for a while 'cause STP talked me into racing Rim Nordic Jul 10 and 23/24. Well, I guess could be persuaded to do an easy ride up Angeles Crest on Sat. the 9th if anyone's interested?

Hope y'all had fun over the weekend. One of these days we'll get a group going.

I did 80 miles in the Sequoia National Forest yesterday. It was on The XR, but it was as beautiful a day as Saturday.

I'm jealous - much prettier up there, even on an XR. You really should consider buying another bicycle though. Slower but just as fun.

My girl's re-fi is coming through in a couple of days and bringing a brand-spanking-new Raleigh with it! I have to tip my hat to The XR from a fun factor pov, but the fact that I'm replacing the bike means that I mostly agree with you. The bummer about Sequoia is the 200-mile round trip, but we got to see first-hand the plane that crashed/burned in Mojave yesterday afternoon.

Hope the refi goes through. I once had a real nice Raleigh 10-speed racer. Hey, I work just down the street from the plane crash you saw. Those folks were pretty lucky; two walked away and the other two got out with cuts and bruises. That motel needed a good remodel anyhow. By the way, I hear they're putting up a 'Caution - Airplane XING' sign on Sierra Hwy......

Well, I can't argue with you on the speed/power part of the moto fun factor but does your XR have the suffer factor? IMHO, after a good bout with the SF, even the worst of the rest of this life thing becomes infinitely sweet.

A witness said the pilot's hair was on fire after the crash. I missed that part, but yikes!
I'll be sore until next week after 7 hours of wrestling that bike through the 60 of those 80 miles that were tight, twisty, steep/rocky singletrack. I'll be taking that new Raleigh to "break it in" on Ken Burton. Or maybe Echo Mtn, or Trailer Cyn...
