 Sunday GMR ride
Mr Bonk, Pain Freak, JT and me had made plans to do GMR at 7:00 AM today. Yesterday was supposed to rain, today was supposed to clear. Think a little rain is going to stop Mr Bonk and Pain Freak? Guess again! I got up, looked outside and it looked pretty crappy so I got out the rain gear. PF emailed me to say he was running late and would drive to catch us. So I took off to Rancho Cucamonga from Upland to meet up with Mr Bonk and JT (Yeah, I know.....GMR is the OTHER way!). I had checked weather.com and ABC7 Doppler and it looked real clear, so hopefully we'd just get misted on a little bit.....no such luck; it was coming down pretty good.

We were climbing that small hill on Baseline, just west of Towne Ave, and some car goes by, honking like crazy. After we had all blurted out the usual "F$%k You!" we realized it was Pain Freak! Oops! We picked up Pf and headed west. It was now raining fairly hard, then my Flight deck died again......damn POS.....I'm gonna go get something more simple.

By the time we hit GMR the road was dry and we started the climb. A couple of fast groups past us on way to the fork. Bonk and Pf took off after them. We re-grouped by the maintenance station, and then I realized I lost my Oakley Pro M-Frames (too rainy to wear them, so I had them around my neck). Then we headed toward Baldy Village on GRR. It stayed fairly dry until about 1/2 of the way there and started raining again. By this time we were at about 4,000' so we had to stay moving to keep warm. Finally....Cow Canyon saddle, 4523', then 13 miles of fast downhill home. Can you say Hypothermia? Man, the wind chill was killing me.

So let's recap: Mr Bonk sets up the ride. It rains. My Filght Deck dies. I lose my Oakleys. I'm completely soaked and freezing my a$$ off. My bike is a filthy mess! Wait a second.......Damn this was fun!

Mr Bonk: where we goin' next week?

Pack an extra windbreaker,LMAO. The guy was wearing more clothes then an eskimo (the smartest one of the bunch).

Most guys that mountain bike just don't realize the fun time you can have on a road bike.Shiat, we get to suffer even more in some cases. The weather up top was freekin COLD! For some reason I just had to go fast today.I was fine as long as I was pedeling, but when I stopped for anymore then a couple of minutes it got cold real fast. Mr Bonk pulled up from behind me on the downhill to tell me he'd lost his brakes on the upper portion of the downhill.I had almost lost mine too.I'm not sure if it was the wet, but pulling almost as hard as I dared to, and I was just barely slowing down.Instant adrenaline rush.Hitting 40 mph+ going downhill on a winding tore up mountain road.If that don't get the juices flowing,I don't know what will. Even with the cold it was an excellent ride. BTW, it had to be the most beautiful scenery up there that I've ever seen. The flowers are going nuts and the hills are so green and colorful. It makes all that rain almost seem worth it. Wildlife sightings ,A salamander, crossing the road.A raven we got really close to and a redtail hawk we got real close to.

Next weekend is south for me.I'll be doing the Rosarito/Ensenada ride.

"The guy was wearing more clothes then an eskimo" too fockin' funny PF. I to have been accused of wearing to many jackets/jerseys/arm warmers...etc.. I hate being cold! Especially on 40+ mph downhills dodging salamanders, or in my case in santa clarita, dodging soccer moms in ford expeditions!

Good luck in meheeco. My GF is doing is heading down there w/her friend for that ride. Them and 10,000 of their best friends
      ;-)

It was just a Sunday morning ride really!

PF was on performance enhancing drugs and would not share them.
He just took off up the hill and waited.

Closet Roadie is still peeling off all of the clothes he had on.

JT did very well till coming down Baldy Road. He turned on to Mountain Ave and slid the rear tire and over he went.

Like I said it was just another Sunday morning ride.

Next Sunday the Cinnamon Roll Shop and back. No hills, lots of miles and good eats !

Mr Bonk: I just pulled the second load of today's ride's clothes out of the drier. One more and I'm done.
PF: I need to learn the finer points of doping!
JT: Bonk said he was going to hurt you real bad.....did he live up to his promise?

My wife is going to be tied up all day next Saturday, and I am not even the one doing the tying this time! I won't even have to make any excuses for where I've been all day. When Mr Bonk says "next Sunday the Cinnamon Roll Shop and back" he neglected to tell you that the round trip will be about 140 miles or better (Fontucky to Huntington Beach to Seal Beach AND back!). Just a quick Saturday mornin' ride!
