 Takara Grand Touring 12-speed
I own a Takara Grand Touring road bike, built around 1980, does anyone know anything about these Japanese bikes and is it worth anything?

I had one (good bike and light). Put a new handle bar on it, called it a Commuter Bike and got $75 for it.

I also have a takara grand touring 18 speed. I bought it in Wichita, KS. in 1981 or 82. Not a bad bike, but not a valuable commodity. It is to outdated for a serious tour rider, and it isn't a collectors item. post it on e-bay and you will find out what people think it is worth. I have updated the shifters and crank in mine and still ride it.

I own a Takara bike. My wife is forcing me to buy a new road bike. Is it possible to sell my old Takara?

Man, that is tough. I can't believe your ol' lady is making you buy a new set of pipes. The next thing you know she will be "forcing" you to buy tickets to the Final Four, and "making" you buy a new ski boat. You should put your foot down before she "forces" you into baby-siting strippers.

Seriously, you should keep your sweet ride. It will never fetch what it is worth to you. Can you have too many bikes?

yes, you can have too many bikes. I live in a not-that-small house, but I also have a couple dozen 10 speeds, 6 or 7 MTB's, scooters, tricycles, steel championship downhill bigwheels a pedal car (plastic, not ti) and the like. I say I have too many bikes.
yeah, I know that most of them aren't really bikes, but I think they count if they have pneumatic tires and they were upgraded with bike parts.
