 XC races next year in SoCal ? I need some advice
Hi all,
I'm 31 and looking for a race or two to train towards next year. I'm looking for a fast course XC race with not too much technical stuff. I'm a recreational rider and back in the day raced BMX's pretty seriously.
I want an event, ideally in Southern California, next Spring to train towards - any ideas ?

    It's not SoCal, but if you've never raced you have to do the Sea Otter Classic as your first one.

      Hi - Sea Otter looks like a good one - but why do you suggest this particularly ?

        It's a scenic and not too difficult a course, one you'd just go up to for a sweet 18 mile ride. Many local race courses have a lot of climbing before you get to recover. Sea Otter has very rolling terrain. Plus it's the largest bike event around, got a cool vibe, the biggest expo, you get to sprint on the Laguna Seca Raceway, watch the pro's in a spectator friendly area, etc.

          Plus if you want the true race experience, there is nothing like racing against 250 other people just in your class. I need to work on my off the line sprinting so I can make it to the singletrack before the angry mob.

    Sea Otter by far would be the best one. Great atmosphere, fun courses and unlike some of the So.Cal. races, fresh air. I was there this year and had a blast. We are going back next year to kick off the Cal. State series.

    Check out www.y-events.com. There is a three race series in
    Temecula. Not too far from L.A. They change the course for each race. Not a bad place for a race. Nice singletrack and a fun downhill section. No monster climbs. You can camp
    there if you want. There's a 24 hour race in april too.
