Hey Garrett, this is a tough question because costco and walmart don't sell bikes that have good brakes or suspension.

There's a site you should check out http://www.bikesrnottoys.com/

Go to a bike shop instead of wally world or costco. The bikes are built better and most shops will fit you better and provide you with service. There's more to owning a bike than the original purchase. Also, ride a few bikes before you settle on one.

A good set of V brakes work better than bad discs and a nice hardtail is a good way to go for a first bike, it'll help you learn proper bike handling... how to ride smoothly and pick your lines. A good bike shop bike will cost upwards of $500. Look for last year's model... but nothing much older... and you can save $ since they have to clear the old stuff to make way for the new.

i assume by being 15, u dont have much money...
find a good used bike on Ebay and leave the Wal-Mart
stuff to people who use them for street riding, like ZG

Sell your jukebox and buy a spider... so someone can steal it and we can all hear about how you cried... and wet yourself.

If the guy is new to bikes, do you think he knows what used bike to buy? How about condition?

Funny that you're comment is to Crazyrider. I'd guess that out of everyone on this site, in the last six months, he's the only one on this site whose bikes have touched less dirt than mine!

          =)

Why are you even going there....considering I'm the only one on the site, in the last six months, that hasn't totally flamed you about your lack of riding and over-eating...!?!?

            =P

              Oh no you didn't...

              I don't over-eat... I under-ride.

if youre looking to save money but want to get a bike that would fit you try giong to a local bike shop other than walmart or kmart and look into a raleigh or diamondback bike with full suspension and disc brakes. before the trails that i have been on, the local shop has tuned up my bike each time free of charge. walmart and kmart can't provide that kind of service.
