 XC Inca Trails in Peru
Did you ever imagine riding your mountain bike through Main Inca Trails? Don’t worry, this tour is 100% legal and possible to make just by Inkas Adventures, the best choice for a mountain bike trip in Peru. We will start our journey at the town of Andahuaylas, practically jumping off the plane with our bikes! Through all these days of journey, we will ride maybe the best portion of the main Inca Trail that connects Quito, Ecuador with the northern part of Argentina. In this part of Peru, it is possible to view impressive landscapes of the Andes Mountains mixed with the Inca stone architecture. We will pass through important Inca Sites during our ride that will leave you totally amazed. We will cross also the Apurimac Canyon to finally enter into the city of Cuzco and make our final ride at the Inca sites of Chinchero, Moray, Maras and Ollantaytambo. Of course, Machu Picchu is considered in our itinerary.

Itinerary:


Day 0: Reception at the airport
We will meet our clients at Lima’s airport and our guide will take us to the hotel located in Miraflores, a tourist neighborhood of Lima, near shopping malls, cinemas, international restaurants, etc. If you arrive early in the morning it’s possible to make a first incursion to the hills near Lima and experience the best place in Lima for mountain biking.

Day 1: Transfer to Andahuaylas
You will be transferred early in the morning to the airport to take a direct flight to the city of Andahuaylas where our bus will be waiting for us to help with the bikes and bags. The flight takes approximately one hour. Immediately, we will prepare our mountain bikes and leave the airport on two wheels crossing the landing track!
From the airport we will have a little ascent of about one hour on an amazing singletrack and then a very nice and smooth downhill that will take us to the city of Talavera and finally reach the city of Andahuaylas on the Chumbao Valley.

Riding time: 3 hours


Day 2: Pacucha Lake, Sondor, Rosaspata, Curamba, Huancarama.
This day we will ride around Pacucha Lake and visit the Chanka site of Sondor with its amazing pyramid architecture. We will have incredible breath-taking views of the landscapes of Andahuaylas and its surroundings.
On the afternoon we will continue with our tour and ride our first section of the Main Inca Trail from the location of Sondor to the town of Huancarama, crossing the Inca site of Curamba.

Riding time: 4.5 hours

Day 3: Huancarama, Pachachaca Colonial Bridge, Abancay, Saywite, Cusco.
We start our day climbing 13.2 Km. to the mountain pass of Sotapa at 3,570 masl and then continue on the Main Inca Trail with a great descend of more than 1,800 meters to reach the Colonial Bridge at the Pachachaca River at 1,700 masl.
We will be transferred at this point by bus to the city of Abancay to have lunch and then continue our ride with another part of the Main Inca Trail from Saywite at 4,000 masl to the Hot Springs of Cconoc at almost 2,000 masl. We will pass through impressive Inca sites during our ride and will have the opportunity to discover some of their rituals that they used for living in harmony with nature.
We will be finally be transferred to the city of Cusco where it will be waiting for us a great dinner and of course the nightlife of the Imperial City.

Riding time: 4.5 hours

Day 4: Cusco Surroundings.
We will start our ride after lunch going to the upper part of Cusco where it is located great Inca Sites. We will pass from Tambomachay and Puca Pucara and continue our tour discovering great singletracks that connects with other Inca Sites like Q’enko and Saqsayhuaman.
We will finally end our day with a great descend that finishes crossing the streets of Cusco and reaches the Main Square with it’s impressive churches all around.

Riding time: 2 hours

Day 5: Chinchero, Moray, Maras, Ollantaytambo.
This is a classic Inca Trail in Cuzco for mountain biking. Explore more impressive Inca sites like Moray, used for agriculture engineering and the Salt terraces of Maras.
Total Km: 30.7
Riding time: 3 hours

Day 6: Machu Picchu
This day we will visit the most impressive Inca site: The Lost Citadel of Machu Picchu. The tour starts with a train ride to the village of Aguas Calientes. From there we take a private bus up to the Citadel. We will have practically all the day to explore the entire citadel and know all of its well preserved secrets.


Day 7: The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu: From Ollantaytambo to Chillca.
This day we will ride a portion of the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu from the village of Ollantaytambo to the village of Chillca. We will start crossing impressive Inca andenes and then we will climb to a section with the Urubamba River at our left side that will give us impressive views of the valley and the Inca andenes of Ollantaytambo. At this trail it is possible to find some hikers that are going to Machu Picchu.

Riding time: 3.5 hours


Day 8: Huilloc, Pumamarca & Ollantaytambo
This is a special day because we will go to the village of Huilloc, where the porters of the Machu Picchu Inca Trail are native. We will have the opportunity to discover their way of life and their peculiar colorful clothes.
We will continue our ride to the Inca site of Pumamarca at the top of the mountain and finally start a great descend that crosses impressive Inca andenes to reach the Inca site of Ollantaytambo at the bottom of the Sacred Valley. We will stay there to have a guided tour in the ruins.

Riding time: 4 hours

Day 9: Lares.
This is our last day of mountain biking in Cusco, and we want to make it epic!
We will be transferred by our bus to the location of Calca at the Sacred Valley and then go to the mountain pass of Lares located at 4,350 masl. From this point we will start our ride downhilling by another impressive Inca Trail with thousands of rock steps that looks that they were made for our mountain bikes!
We will pass maybe one of the most impressive landscapes of all the tour, crossing a deep canyon where it is only possible to make it on our bikes. We will pass different terrains, from flat surfaces on top of the mountain to great valleys at the middle of the trail.
We will finally end our tour at the location of Calca where we will be transferred to Cuzco for our last night of party.

Riding time: 3 hours


Day 10: End of the Tour.
We will have all the morning to discover the city of Cuzco and on the afternoon our bus will take us to the airport for our return flight to Lima and to our respective countries.

    No, he means Incan. Mayan society was in Mexico and Central America. He's talking about South American countries where Incan society thrived for centuries.
